Photography and Vantage Points

In this one-session lesson, students will be introduced to Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) and vantage points. Using photographs from a variety of time periods, students will discuss and analyze the subjects, the time period, and photographers’ angles. Students will also record their ideas and reflections.

A photograph can tell a story about events, people, places, and situations. Photojournalists are usually assigned by newspapers and magazines to take a variety of photographs related to an event. Their photographs are often accompanied by captions that explain the photograph.

Portrait in Fruit

Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1527-1593) was born in Milan, Italy. He is most famous for his paintings completed for the Hapsburg Court of Vienna between 1562 and 1587. His distinctive style combined fruit, vegetables, meat, and other organic objects in the form of the human face.
