Who?
Kevin Bubriski is a documentary photographer, who travels around the world photographing important events, places, and people. He is best known for his book, Portrait of Nepal. Bubriski worked for nine years in Nepal and is fluent in the language and the local customs. He traveled to remote mountain villages and, using his camera, documented the people, monuments, and villages he visited. Bubriski now lives in Vermont, but continues to travel to Nepal to photograph the events that are affecting the people. His recent projects also include images of Peru, Syria, Ireland, Italy, Turkey, and pictures from Vermont and New York on the one year anniversary of September 11th.

Why?
Patan is a city located in Nepal. It is considered one of the oldest ancient cities in this area and it is believed that Patan was founded in the 3rd century A.D. The city is full of monuments and temples from the Buddhist and Hindu religions. Patan Durbar Square is located in the center of the city and many religious ceremonies and festivals are held here. By using a high vantage point, Bubriski makes the monuments appear very large, especially in comparison to the people in the square. The misty atmosphere also creates a sense that this is a spiritual place.

If you could travel around the world, where would you go and what would you photograph?

If Bubriski had taken this photograph from a different
vantage point, what would change in the photograph?

What important event would you document?
