Marc Riboud is a member of Magnum, which is a group of well-known outstanding photojournalists.
Riboud has traveled around the world, documenting people and events though photographs.
His images show the kindness and respect he has for his subjects, as well as
a strong sense of beauty with interesting camera placements. Riboud combines
emotional description with wonderful composition in
his images.

Riboud’s photograph, Beijing, is part of a well-known series of images he made of China during his visits beginning in 1957. The photograph was taken inside looking out onto a street. This is a photograph about framing.
Riboud has arranged the photograph so that we look through different windows
onto a street scene with people and buildings in Beijing. Using the windows
in this manner creates a number of smaller scenes within the larger one.
A shop with a similar pattern of windows on the far side of the street can
even be seen through one of these rectangular openings.
What different scenes do you see in each window?
How would the photograph be different if there were no windows?
If you took a picture of the outside, through your bedroom window, what would
be in the frame?

Composition - How you arrange objects in a photograph or picture .
Framing - When you arrange the subject, foreground, and background within the boundaries of a frame. For example: when you are looking through a camera and place a person in the center of the rectangular camera window.
Photojournalist - Photographers who usually work for newspapers and magazines to photograph important events, people, or places.
